His hands shook as he plugged a blue network cable into the wall jack.

“What is this?” Vanessa asked, her voice losing its calm edge.

“This is the recovery log of the pediatric ICU’s local server,” Margaret said.

She looked at me, her eyes steady.

“Twenty minutes ago, the hospital’s main server experienced a sudden power surge.”

“It deleted several hours of internal security footage.”

“But the backup generators kicked in, saving the local cache.”

Kevin tapped the keyboard of the laptop.

The screen flickered to life, showing a multi-camera view of the third-floor corridor.

The timestamp at the bottom read 4:15 PM, just three hours ago.

“Play the camera above terminal four,” Margaret said.

Kevin clicked a mouse.

The screen zoomed in on a small nursing alcove just outside the neonatal unit.

A woman in a long blue scrub top was standing at the terminal.

She did not wear a nurse’s cap, and her hair was tucked under a blue paper hairnet.

But her face was clearly visible when she looked up at the ceiling.

It was Vanessa.
