“And you have no proof.”

The door suddenly pushed wider, forcing Vanessa to step forward into the room.

Margaret Voss stood in the hallway.

She looked wet from the rain, her coat damp, but her expression was perfectly calm.

Behind her stood a young man in a blue hospital IT uniform who looked terrified.

He carried a heavy black laptop.

“Actually, she does,” Margaret said.

She walked past Vanessa as if the woman did not exist.

She placed her wet briefcase on the small bedside table.

“Step back from my client, Vanessa,” Margaret said.

Vanessa tightened her grip on her leather folder.

“This is a private medical room,” Vanessa said. “You have no right to be here.”

“I am the executor of the Voss-Holloway Trust,” Margaret said.

“I have the right to inspect any facility funded by my family’s foundation.”

She pointed to the brass plaque near the doorway.

It bore the name of Margaret’s grandfather.

“This entire wing exists because of my family,” Margaret said.

She turned to the young man in the blue uniform.

“Set the laptop on the table, Kevin.”

Kevin nodded quickly.
