“You do not have the power to freeze my personal accounts,” Grant said, finally looking up.

His eyes were bloodshot.

“I have the power to freeze any account that has received transfers from the family trust within the last ninety days,” Margaret said.

“My personal checking has nothing to do with the trust,” Grant said.

“You transferred four million dollars from the Holloway primary trust into your personal savings on Tuesday,” Margaret said.

She pulled a single sheet of paper from her folder and held it out.

“To pay the retainer for your divorce counsel, I believe,” she said.

Grant did not take the paper.

Vanessa reached for it instead, her fingers trembling slightly as she snatched the page from Margaret’s hand.

Her eyes scanned the numbers quickly, her manicured nail digging into the edge of the paper.

“This is a mistake,” Vanessa said, turning to Grant. “He has separate assets in Delaware.”

“Those were locked ten minutes ago under the same statute,” Margaret said.

Outside the heavy glass window, the rain began to patter against the frame.
