Vance scrolled down the screen.
The room fell completely silent.
The only sound was the wind howling against the glass windows.
Sophia backed away slowly toward the corner of the office.
The two men by the window moved instantly, blocking her path to the door.
“This is a lie,” Sophia said, her face turning pale. “She is framing me to protect Marcus. She is his wife.”
“I am leaving Marcus,” I said. “But I am not letting you drag me down with you.”
Vance looked up from the computer screen.
His face was completely blank.
“The numbers match, Sophia,” Vance said. “Four million dollars from the Detroit shipping accounts. It’s all here.”
“I can explain,” Sophia said.
She reached for her leather purse on the desk.
One of the men quickly grabbed her wrist.
He squeezed until she winced and let go of the bag.
“Don’t,” the man said.
I looked past them, out the large window.
Far down the street, through the snow, I saw the faint reflection of red and blue lights.
