“Elena, what did you do?” she asked. “Why did the Detroit partners get those files?”
“Because you lied to them, Sophia,” I said.
I stepped forward and tossed the silver flash drive onto the desk.
It slid across the polished wood and stopped a few inches from Vance’s hand.
Vance picked it up.
“What is that?” Sophia asked.
“The real transaction history,” I said. “The one you didn’t have time to edit.”
Vance plugged the drive into the laptop.
His fingers tapped quickly on the keyboard.
“You told them Marcus was the one hiding the offshore accounts,” I said to Sophia.
“He was,” Sophia said, her voice rising in pitch. “He’s been stripping the syndicate assets for months.”
“No,” I said. “Marcus was trying to track them. It was you.”
Luca looked up from the floor, his brow furrowed.
“Elena, is this true?” Luca asked.
“Look at the routing numbers on page four of the spreadsheet, Luca,” I said.
“They don’t go to Marcus’s shell companies,” I said. “They go to a Swiss bank account registered to a holding company in Delaware.”
