“And if you try to frame Victoria to cover it up, I will personally hand those files to the city inspector.”

James pulled his phone from his pocket, his fingers tapping rapidly against the screen.

“We’ll see what the board thinks of your theories,” James said.

He held the phone to his ear, his eyes locked on mine.

“Chief executive’s office, please,” James said into the receiver.

“This is James Hendricks.”

“I need an emergency meeting with Dr. Sterling right now.”

He paused, listening, his face tightening into a mask of pure anger.

“Tell her it concerns a major security breach in the pediatric pharmacy.”

“And tell her that if Victoria Sullivan is on the schedule tomorrow, my family’s foundation is pulling its entire donation.”

“Ten million dollars, gone by morning.”

He hung up the phone without waiting for a reply.

He shoved the phone back into his pocket and sneered at us.

“Sterling will be here in ten minutes,” James said.

“Let’s see how much your little files matter when the hospital is facing a massive budget deficit.”
