A Forgotten Nurse Finds Healing When an Unexpected Question Changes Her Entire Life
“I control the thirty-million-dollar endowment for the new pediatric center.”
“Do you think they will hesitate to sacrifice one floor nurse to keep that money?”
Daniel took another step forward, forcing James to back up toward the sliding doors.
“You won’t pull that funding, James,” Daniel said.
“Because if you do, the audit on the construction bids becomes public record.”
James stiffened.
His eyes widened slightly, the first real sign of fear showing on his face.
“What did you say?” James whispered.
“I’ve been looking over the structural steel invoices from Bell Construction,” Daniel said.
“The numbers don’t match the materials delivered to the site.”
“Mark has been billing for premium grade and installing substandard materials.”
“And your committee approved every single invoice without an independent inspection.”
I looked from Daniel to James, my heart hammering against my ribs.
I knew Mark was selfish, but I had never imagined he would risk children’s safety for money.
“That’s a lie,” James said, though his voice lacked its previous strength.
“It’s a matter of public safety,” Daniel replied.
