She looked at the image, her brow furrowing.

“Dad,” I whispered, “someone is in my apartment.”

My father leaned closer to look at the screen.

“Is that Luke’s doing?” he asked, his voice low and tense.

“I don’t know,” I said.

Sarah tapped my arm.

“Keep your composure,” she said. “I am texting the police and the building security right now.”

She typed rapidly on her phone under the table.

I took a deep breath and sat back as the judge took her seat on the bench.

Linda and Hannah walked back in, escorted by their attorney.

Hannah’s eyes were red, but Linda still looked defiant.

Linda kept her chin up, refusing to look in my direction.

They sat down at their table across the aisle.

Judge Thomas adjusted her glasses and looked down at the documents in front of her.

The courtroom was completely silent except for the hum of the air conditioner.

“After reviewing the testimony and the evidence presented,” Judge Thomas began, her voice echoing in the high-ceilinged room.

“It is the finding of this court that the power of attorney documents presented by the respondents are fraudulent.”
