Why My Family Tried to Sign Away My Life Without My Consent
“They arrested Hannah this morning.”
“The police came to her house while she was making breakfast for the children.”
“They took her in handcuffs, Mark.”
“The children were screaming.”
“She is your sister.”
“She was desperate.”
“Luke got into some terrible trouble with some bad men in Nassau, and they threatened his life.”
“She only used your name because she knew you had the credit, and she was going to pay it back.”
“She was going to fix it before you ever found out.”
“She didn’t mean to hurt you.”
I looked at her, searching for any sign of real understanding.
There was none.
She was still trying to manage the situation, still trying to spin the narrative.
“She forged my signature on a legal document, Linda,” I said.
“She tried to steal my life savings to pay for Luke’s gambling debts.”
“And you helped her.”
Linda’s eyes widened, and she took a step closer, her voice dropping to a sharp whisper.
“I did what any mother would do to save her child,” she said.
“You have so much, Mark.”
