Why My Family Tried to Sign Away My Life Without My Consent
“A secure facility where no one can find them,” I said. “For their own safety.”
Hannah shook her head, her face tightening.
“I am not letting you take my children away from me,” she said.
“They are not safe with you, Hannah,” I said, pointing to the window. “Look outside.”
Before she could answer, my phone began to vibrate in my hand.
The caller ID showed an unknown number.
I slid the bar to answer and placed the phone to my ear.
“Mark Collins,” I said.
“Mr. Collins,” a deep, calm voice said on the other end. “We know your sister is in apartment 42B.”
I froze, my eyes darting to the front door.
“Who is this?” I asked.
“We just want what is owed to us,” the voice said. “If you try to move the children, we will make this very difficult for you.”
“Are you threatening me?” I asked, my voice dropping an octave.
“We are just advising you to make the right choice,” the voice said. “Look out your front door.”
The line went dead.
I looked at Hannah, who was watching me with a terrified expression.
