“I am here with my attorney,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
“Your attorney is a trespasser on private property,” Charles said, stepping up beside his sister.
He tapped the iron gate with his boot.
“Turn the car around, Arthur,” Victoria said, her eyes narrowing as she looked at me. “Before we call the sheriff.”
Arthur reached across me and pressed his hand to the window control, lowering it all the way.
“The sheriff is already on his way, Victoria,” Arthur said, his voice calm and level.
Victoria sneered, her red lipstick looking dark and bruised under the gray sky.
“You are representing a woman who has no legal claim to this estate, Arthur,” she said.
“My father’s will was very clear,” Charles added, his voice shaking slightly despite his hard stance.
“Your father’s original will is what we are here to discuss,” Arthur replied.
He put the Buick in park and pulled the emergency brake.
The engine idled with a low, wet rumble.
I looked past them, toward the flatbed truck parked near the garage.
