“Get away from me!” Victor screamed into the darkness.

His voice cracked with panic.

“I will shoot you, you miserable mutt!” he yelled.

From the darkness between two massive iron boilers, a low, rumbling growl echoed.

It was a sound that vibrated through the floorboards.

It was Bishop.

He was invisible in the deep shadows, but his presence filled the entire room.

Victor took a step backward, his boot slipping on a patch of wet moss.

He waved his gun wildly, trying to aim at the sound.

“Lucian!” Victor called out, his voice desperate.

“Tell your dog to back off!”

“If he comes closer, I will drop this drive into the turbine shaft!”

Victor pointed his left hand toward a deep, gaping hole in the concrete floor.

It was an old intake shaft that led straight down into the rushing waters of the river below.

If the drive fell in there, it would be lost forever.

My mother’s name would never be cleared.

Lucian stopped walking, his gun still aimed at Victor’s chest.

“You have nowhere to go, Victor,” Lucian said.

“The docks are surrounded.”
