“I found something,” I whispered.
“What is it?” she asked, leaning closer to look.
“It was in Bishop’s collar,” I said. “Elena hid it there before she died.”
Alina’s face went pale under the bright kitchen lights.
She looked down at the gray dog, who had curled up under the table, his eyes never leaving the door.
“If that is what I think it is,” Alina said, “you shouldn’t show anyone but Lucian.”
“I know,” I said. “My mother… she was involved in this too, Alina.”
“Your mother?” Alina frowned. “She was a nurse. What does she have to do with the Dravens?”
“She tried to help Elena,” I said. “I think she knew who was trying to hurt her.”
A heavy footstep echoed from the hallway leading to the main dining room.
Alina jumped, her hand flying to her throat as she stepped back.
The kitchen door swung open, and a tall man in a dark suit stepped into the room.
It wasn’t Lucian.
It was Victor, Lucian’s chief of security, a man with cold gray eyes and a scar that ran from his ear to his jaw.
