The Waitress and the Mafia Guardian of the Silent Black Orchid
I frowned, looking toward the heavy wooden door of my room.
“What are you talking about? I am safe here. Lucian brought me here to protect me.”
“You are not safe anywhere,” Alina whispered.
I could hear the frantic drumming of rain against her window through the line.
“Do you remember that abusive patron from the restaurant? The one you stood up to last week?” she asked.
“The one who tried to grab my arm at the bar?” I recalled the memory of the angry, red-faced man.
“Yes,” Alina said.
“He was not just some random drunk, Mara.”
“He is a high-ranking lieutenant for the Moretti family.”
My breath caught in my throat.
The Morettis were the Draven syndicate’s main rivals, known for their extreme violence.
“Why does that matter to me?” I asked.
“Because his associates think you are working directly for Lucian,” Alina explained.
“They saw how Bishop protected you. They saw Lucian take you away from the restaurant.”
“They believe you hold key information about the Draven shipping routes,” she continued.
“They think you were a plant at the Black Orchid, pretending to be a waitress.”
