The Truth About the Fire That Scarred My Body and Exposed My Family
“Stay away from me,” Chloe shouted, her voice echoing off the limestone walls of the house.
She looked at the guests who were now staring openly at us.
“The party is over,” Chloe yelled at them. “Get out!”
Nobody moved.
“I said get out!” Chloe screamed, grabbing a glass pitcher of lemonade from a nearby table and throwing it onto the stone tiles.
The glass shattered, sending sticky yellow liquid and shards flying across the patio.
The guests began to whisper, gathering their bags and moving quickly toward the side gate.
Father watched them leave, his reputation crumbling with every person who walked out.
“You have destroyed this family,” Father said, turning his glare back to me.
“No,” I said, tucking my phone into my pocket. “I just stopped hiding the truth.”
“What do you want, Maya?” Father asked, his voice suddenly sounding old and tired. “What is your price?”
“I don’t want your money, Father,” I said.
“Then what?” he asked.
“I want you to sign the medical trust over to me,” I said. “The full amount that was originally paid by the insurance company.”
