“And systematic tenant harassment,” Carl added, looking directly at Jake.

Jake stood up from the desk, his hands curling into fists.

“You think you can just walk in here and kick us out?” Jake said.

“I don’t think,” Carl said. “I know.”

“We have the original deed, Mallerie,” I said. “We have the corporate registration.”

“And we have the digital logs showing the unauthorized bank transfers,” I added.

Mallerie’s smile faded slightly.

She looked at the document on the desk.

“You don’t have proof of anything,” she said, her voice rising.

“We have Derek’s statement,” Carl said.

The room went completely silent.

Mallerie stared at Carl, her eyes widening.

“What did you say?” she whispered.

“Derek told us everything,” Carl said. “He told us about the false ledger.”

“He told us how you planned to force the tenants out to raise the rents,” I added.

Mallerie looked at Jake, her face pale.

“He’s lying,” Jake said, though his voice lacked conviction. “Derek wouldn’t do that.”

“He did,” Carl said. “Because he couldn’t live with what you were doing.”

Jake reached down and grabbed the three-day notice from the desk.
