The Tailor Who Stitched the Truth for the King of the Underworld
My heart hammered against my ribs, heavy and fast.
I looked up from the paper.
Killian was still searching the metal filing cabinet, his back turned to us.
His broad shoulders shifted under his rain-damp coat.
“What is it, Sienna?” Aries asked.
His voice was very quiet, barely louder than the rain hitting the glass.
I did not answer him right away.
I held out the folded slip of paper.
Aries took it from my hand.
His long, pale fingers brushed mine, and they were cold as ice.
He looked down at the receipt.
The silence in the room became heavy, pressing against my ears like deep water.
I watched Aries’s face.
The muscles along his jaw tightened, turning to granite.
He did not look at Killian right away.
Instead, he folded the paper and slid it into his vest pocket.
“Killian,” Aries said.
Killian stopped searching the cabinet.
He stood up slowly, wiping his dust-covered hands on a rag.
“Sir?” Killian asked, turning around.
“Where is the secondary manifest for the Biella shipment?” Aries asked.
“I couldn’t find it in the drawers,” Killian said.
