“I’ll talk to them tomorrow,” Ethan said, pushing past Samuel and running down the porch steps.

His tires spun on the wet gravel as he sped away into the darkness.

Julian frowned, pulling out his phone.

“Why is he in such a hurry?” Julian asked.

“He’s going to try to save himself,” I said, holding my baby tighter.

Julian tapped his screen, his face turning pale in the light of the monitor.

“Claire,” Julian said, his voice suddenly tense.

“What is it?” I asked.

He held up the phone, showing me a live administration log for the Westbridge Fertility Clinic.

A notification was flashing on the screen in bright red text.

“He’s trying to log in from his car,” Julian said, his fingers flying across his phone screen.

“Can he delete them from there?” I asked, my heart hammering against my ribs.

“No,” Julian replied, shaking his head. “The system requires a physical keycard and a local terminal override for permanent deletion of genetic archives.”

“Then he’s heading to the clinic,” Samuel said.
