The engine roared to life, and the windshield wipers began scraping against the glass.
Ethan threw the car into reverse and backed out of the space with a screech of tires.
“How long to get there?” I asked, leaning forward between the front seats.
“Thirty minutes if the highway is clear,” Ethan said, his hands gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white. “Forty-five if we have to take the canyon road.”
The car sped out of the clinic parking lot and onto the empty street.
