I turned my back to the camera and stepped closer to Vance.

“Before you say a word, you are going to tell me the truth,” I said.

“I told you about the metadata on the drive,” he whispered.

“Not just the bank transfers,” I said. “The rest of it. The affair.”

Vance swallowed hard, his eyes darting to the video feed.

“It was all fabricated,” he said.

“Explain it,” I demanded.

“The photos of Maren with the fertility specialist,” he stammered. “They were taken during her routine examinations here.”

“She was alone,” I said.

“Yes,” Vance said. “We used a digital overlay program to insert the doctor into the frame.”

“And the hotel room setting?” I asked.

“We matched the lighting from a local hotel suite,” he said. “Tessa bought the digital assets for us.”

“How long have you been doing this for her?” I asked.

“It goes back years,” he whispered. “Before you even met Tessa.”

“Why?” I asked.

“She wanted to control your family’s assets,” Vance said. “But she needed Maren completely out of the picture first.”

“So you falsified the DNA tests too,” I said.
