The very man who had stood on television promising to clean up the streets was anchoring the network from below.

The tunnels allowed Kane’s people to move children and contraband directly into properties protected by the badge.

Dante pulled out his phone and speed-dialed Luca.

“Luca, are Rachel and the boy secure?” Dante asked.

“Just reached the clinic, Boss,” Luca’s voice crackled through the speaker. “The doctors are administering the antidote now. She’s stable, but unconscious.”

“Good,” Dante said. “Get back to the car. We have a new target.”

“Where are we going?” Luca asked.

“The Gold Coast,” Dante said. “The commissioner’s private safehouse connects to the tunnel system.”

Dante stood up, pulling his black wool coat tightly around his shoulders.

He checked his Glock, sliding a fresh magazine into the grip with a sharp click.

“If the commissioner is involved, this goes deeper than Kane,” Dante said into the phone. “We need to move before they realize the system was breached.”

“Do you think your sister is there?” Luca asked.

Dante paused, looking down at my photo still open on the secondary monitor.
