“Lucas Vance,” the detective in the gray suit said, stepping into the center of the room.
“You are under arrest for grand larceny, identity theft, and corporate embezzlement.”
An officer grabbed Lucas’s right arm and forced it behind his back.
Lucas struggled, his shoulder twisting awkwardly as the metal cuffs clicked into place.
“I haven’t done anything!” Lucas yelled, thrashing against the officer’s grip.
“This is my house! You have no right to be here!”
“The house is registered under the name of Melanie Harper,” the detective replied coolly.
“An identity you stole to hide three million dollars of embezzled corporate funds.”
In Denver, Chloe covered her mouth with both hands, a soft sob escaping her throat.
She stared at the laptop screen as her husband was pushed down onto his knees.
The white leather couch was stained with a splash of spilled scotch from his knocked-over glass.
“He took everything from me,” Chloe whispered, tears spilling over her eyelashes.
“He told me we were going to start over.”
