The Sister Who Stole My Life and the Husband Who Paid the Price
I looked back at the laptop screen.
The red light on the bank’s monitoring dashboard was still flashing.
*Transfer Initiated: $720,000.00.*
*Status: Pending Internal Review.*
“Reed,” I said, turning to the security consultant. “How did he get access so quickly?”
Reed tapped his keyboard, bringing up a log of IP addresses.
“He used the local Wi-Fi network at the Palm Springs property,” Reed said. “He must have walked right through the door, opened his laptop, and logged into the joint account.”
“He didn’t even hesitate,” Arthur said from the corner of the room.
“He thought he had you fooled, Chloe,” I said, looking at my sister. “He thought you were still on his side.”
Chloe looked down at the floor, her shoulders shaking.
“He told me we were going to start over,” she whispered. “He said the money would buy us a new life in Costa Rica.”
“He was going to leave you behind the moment that money cleared,” I said.
The truth was harsh, but she needed to hear it.
Reed pointed to the screen again.
“Look at the transfer details,” he said.
