The Sister Who Stole My Life and the Husband Who Paid the Price
“He’s flying to Palm Springs,” Chloe whispered from the corner.
Melanie turned to her. “When?”
“His flight left an hour ago,” I said, checking my watch. “He thinks he’s meeting Chloe there. He thinks they’re starting over.”
Chloe looked down at the floor, her cheeks flushing red with shame.
Melanie looked between the two of us, her expression softening just a fraction. “He’s a monster.”
“We need to go to the police,” I said, reaching for my coat.
“The police won’t understand the wire transfers fast enough,” Melanie said, shaking her head. “By the time a detective gets a warrant for the bank logs, Lucas will have moved the money to the Cayman accounts.”
“So what do we do?” Chloe asked.
“We call his boss,” Melanie said. “Arthur Vance. He’s the managing partner. He’s already suspicious, but he doesn’t have the proof.”
I grabbed the laptop and slid it into my shoulder bag. “Let’s go.”
We left the motel room, the cold air hitting my face like a slap.
We got into my car, Melanie sitting in the passenger seat and Chloe in the back.
