The Sister Who Stole My Life and the Husband Who Paid the Price
I ended the call and looked at the clock on the microwave.
Seven minutes left.
“What’s the plan?” Chloe asked.
“You are going to read him the sixteen-digit key,” I said. “But before you do, we are going to alter the fifth and ninth digits.”
“Won’t he notice?” she asked.
“The cloner uses a standard hexadecimal encryption,” I said. “A two-digit shift will keep the connection alive but redirect the routing path to a secure server we control.”
I pulled the cloner toward me.
My fingers flew over the small keypad on the side of the device.
“Is this going to stop him from taking the money?” Chloe asked.
“It’s going to do more than that,” I said. “It’s going to show everyone exactly where he tried to send it.”
I looked up at her.
“And it’s going to prove he was the one who did it.”
The green light on the cloner blinked rapidly, then turned a solid, steady blue.
“It’s ready,” I said.
I wrote down the modified sixteen-digit code on the scrap of paper.
I pushed it toward Chloe.
