The Silent Treason Beneath My Hudson Valley Estate and the Lost Child
“He didn’t think you had the stomach for it.”
“Caleb underestimated me,” I said.
“And so did you.”
“Where is Lila?”
“She is safe,” he said.
“For now.”
“But if I don’t radio my men in five minutes, they will take her.”
“They have the boat ready.”
I looked at Nora.
She was shaking, her eyes wide with fear.
“Adrian, don’t listen to him,” Nora sobbed.
“He’s lying.”
“She’s not on the boat yet.”
“Shut up,” the man in the suit said, stepping toward Nora.
I raised the rifle to his forehead.
“Take another step,” I said.
He stopped.
“You won’t shoot me,” he said.
“If I die, you will never find her.”
“The estate is three hundred acres of woods and cliffs.”
“She could be anywhere.”
The radio on my belt crackled.
“Adrian,” Daniel’s voice came through, low and urgent.
“We have the carriage house secure.”
“But we have a problem.”
“What is it, Daniel?” I asked, keeping my eyes on the man in the suit.
“There is another team coming up the driveway,” Daniel said.
“They have three black SUVs.”
“They are heavily armed.”
