“There,” I said, pointing.

“I’ll get a ladder,” Marcus said.

“No time,” I said. “Help me up onto the desk.”

I scrambled onto the mahogany desk, my boots scratching the polished wood.

I reached up, but the ceiling was too high.

“Lift me,” I told Marcus.

Marcus climbed onto the desk beside me.

He grabbed my waist and lifted me off my feet.

My hands shook as I reached for the wooden beam.

My fingers brushed against cold plastic.

I gripped it and pulled hard.

The tape tore away, and I held a small, silver device in my hand.

It was the biometric keycard.

The screen on the card was flashing red, displaying a digital countdown.

*04:12.*

“I got it,” I said as Marcus lowered me back to the desk.

We jumped down.

“Now what?” Marcus asked.

“We need to get to the main breaker room in the cellar,” I said.

The breaker room was adjacent to where Caleb was being held.

We sprinted out of the library and back down the corridor.

As we reached the cellar stairs, we met Daniel coming up.
