I looked at Vance, who nodded for me to answer it.

I swiped the screen and pressed the speaker button.

A voice filled the sterile conference room.

It wasn’t Julian.

It was Eleanor Thorne, her tone cold, smooth, and perfectly measured.

“Madeline,” she said. “I see you didn’t sign the settlement papers.”

I kept my voice flat, refusing to let her hear my fear. “The papers are gone, Eleanor.”

“That is unfortunate,” Eleanor said. “Because Julian just found your daughter’s medical clinic.”

“Where is she, Eleanor?” I asked.

My voice remained flat, though my fingers gripped the edge of the table until my knuckles turned white.

Vance was already gesturing to Miller, who began typing furiously on his laptop to trace the signal.

Eleanor let out a soft, dry laugh through the speaker.

“She is exactly where you left her, Madeline, but she won’t be there for long,” Eleanor said.

“If Julian touches her, I will personally hand every offshore ledger to the Department of Justice,” I said.

“You don’t have them,” Eleanor replied.

“Try me,” I said.

The line went dead.
