The word *Divorce* was printed in bold black letters at the top.
Behind him, Solene leaned over his shoulder to read.
Her face tightened, the fake warmth vanishing instantly.
Rylan let out a dry, rattling laugh.
He tossed the papers back onto the table.
“Divorce?” he said.
He shook his head and leaned back in his chair.
“You can’t be serious, Calla.”
“I am very serious,” I said.
“There is an emergency eviction notice in there as well,” I added.
“You have to leave. Both of you.”
Solene scoffed loudly and crossed her arms over her chest.
“This is ridiculous,” she said.
“You cannot throw my son out of his own home.”
“It is not his home,” I said, looking directly at her.
“It was my grandmother’s house, and it is in my name alone.”
Rylan stood up slowly, using his height to try to intimidate me.
He took a step closer, his eyes narrowing.
“We are married, Calla,” he said, his voice dropping to a low, warning register.
“This is the marital home.”
“The law protects my right to stay here.”
