Solene’s voice followed, sharp and cold.

“Just make sure the notary paperwork looks authentic, Rylan. I don’t want any delays.”

Deputy Vance listened in silence, his jaw tightening slightly.

He took out a black pen and began to write in a notepad.

“When was this recorded?” he asked.

“Less than an hour ago,” I said. “In my hallway.”

“And you didn’t give him permission to sign these documents?”

“Never,” I said. “He bypassed my bank accounts, used a fake notary stamp, and tried to strip the equity from my home.”

He nodded slowly, typing the details into his desk computer.

“We’ll need to keep copies of these documents,” he said.

“And I will need a digital copy of that audio file.”

“Take whatever you need,” I said. “Just tell me what happens next.”

“We’ll file the official report for grand theft and identity fraud,” Vance said.

“An investigator will be assigned to the case first thing in the morning.”

He printed out a copy of the preliminary report and pushed it across the table.

“Sign here, please.”

I took the pen and signed my name.
