“Clear!” a voice yelled from the warehouse floor.

“Secure the perimeter!” another called.

I heard a high-pitched cry from the far corner of the warehouse, near the shipping containers.

“Emily!”

It was my sister’s voice, muffled but unmistakable.

“Clara!” I screamed, moving toward the window.

Adrian kept his eyes and his gun locked on Marcus. “Go, Emily. My men have her.”

I rushed to the doorway, but Adrian’s lead security officer, a tall man named Carter, was already coming up the steps.

“We have the sister, sir,” Carter called out, his boots loud on the metal. “She’s safe. We found her in the secondary office by the loading dock.”

Relief washed over me so fast my knees felt weak.

I leaned against the doorframe, my eyes stinging.

“Is she hurt?” I asked.

“Shaken up, but unharmed,” Carter said. “We’re putting her in the transport now.”

Marcus let out a low, bitter laugh.

“You think you’ve won, Romano?” Marcus said, looking at Adrian. “This is just one warehouse.”

“It’s the warehouse that holds your entire winter inventory,” Adrian said calmly.
