“He told me he would find me,” I said, my voice barely audible.
“He said no matter where I ran, he had eyes everywhere.”
Adrian turned around, his expression hard.
“He doesn’t have eyes in my house,” he said.
I looked up at him.
“Your house?”
“My estate in Lake Forest is fully secure,” Adrian said, walking back to the desk.
“It has private security patrols, biometric gates, and a closed network.”
He stopped a few feet from me.
“You are not going back to your apartment.”
“Adrian, I can’t just hide,” I protested, though the thought of my empty apartment made my stomach turn.
“You won’t be hiding,” he said. “You will be working.”
He tapped the folder on his desk.
“You will continue your duties as my analyst from my private study.”
“I have several active files on the autumn shipping manifests that need to be cleared by Friday,” I said.
“You can access the secure server from there,” Adrian replied.
The phone on the desk buzzed again, the screen lighting up a second time.
