A soft chuckle came from the darkness behind us.

The sound made my skin crawl.

“You were the administrator, Adrian,” a voice said.

I turned around slowly, my chest tightening.

Standing at the end of the aisle, holding a flashlight that cut through the darkness, was Julian.

Beside him stood Marcus Vance.

Marcus was wearing a dark jacket, his face illuminated by the harsh beam of the flashlight.

He smiled, his eyes locking onto mine.

“Hello, Emily,” Marcus said.

My breath caught in my throat, freezing there like ice.

The beam of Julian’s flashlight bounced off the concrete floor, casting long, monstrous shadows up the limestone walls.

Marcus took a step forward, his leather jacket creaking in the silence.

His eyes were bright with a cruel sort of satisfaction I knew all too well.

“Did you really think you could run from me, Emily?” Marcus asked, his voice low and scraping.

I felt Adrian’s arm shift slightly in front of me, a solid barrier between me and the man who had haunted my nightmares.

Adrian’s grip on his weapon did not waver.

He did not look surprised.
