I picked it up.
“Arden?” Maren’s voice came through the line.
“I am here,” I said.
“We just got the confirmation from the court,” Maren said.
“The temporary receivership has been approved.”
“You are officially in control of the voting shares.”
“Thank you, Maren,” I said.
“Is Elliot still in the building?”
“He is in his office,” she said.
“He has been trying to call his attorneys for the last hour.”
“But none of them are picking up.”
“I am going to see him now,” I said.
“Meet me in the boardroom in fifteen minutes with the transition documents.”
“I will be there,” she said.
I hung up the phone and stood up.
My legs felt heavy, but my mind was clear.
I walked down the long hallway toward Elliot Crane’s corner office.
The double doors were slightly ajar.
I pushed them open without knocking.
Elliot was standing by his bar cart, pouring amber liquid into a crystal tumbler.
His tie was loosened, and his jacket was thrown over the back of his leather sofa.
He turned around when he heard the door open, his eyes narrowing.
