Bianca was staring at her hands, her shoulders hunched.

“Arthur, take Bianca to the small conference room,” Elliot said. “Have her wait there with legal counsel.”

Bianca did not protest.

She stood up, grabbed her bag, and walked toward the door without looking at Graham.

The compliance associate followed her out.

The glass door clicked shut behind them.

Graham watched her go, his eyes lingering on the empty doorway.

He looked smaller now, his shoulders rounded under his expensive bespoke jacket.

He turned back to Elliot.

“Elliot, please,” Graham said. “We have been partners for twelve years.”

“You tried to steal the reserve capital, Graham,” Elliot said. “You tried to leave me with the debt.”

“I was desperate,” Graham said.

“We all have bad quarters,” Elliot said. “We don’t all commit grand larceny.”

Elliot closed the blue folder.

“I want your formal resignation on my desk in ten minutes,” Elliot said.

“If I resign quietly, we can tell the press it was a health issue,” Graham said, his voice gaining a desperate speed.

He took another step toward the table.
