I turned to Mr. Han.

“Please escort Mrs. Mercer and her children to the lobby,” I said.

“Their invitations to the gala have been revoked.”

“Maya, please,” Daniel said, reaching out to touch my arm.

I stepped back, avoiding his hand.

“Do not touch me, Daniel,” I said.

“We are still married,” he said, his eyes pleading. “We can fix this. I’ll do whatever you want.”

“We are married on paper,” I said. “My lawyers will deliver the divorce papers to your hotel tomorrow.”

“Hotel?” Claire asked. “What hotel?”

“The budget motel near the highway,” Mr. Han offered politely. “I believe they have vacancies.”

Claire let out a small, strangled cry of disgust.

Vivian raised her chin, trying to maintain her dignity.

“You are a cruel, calculating girl,” Vivian said.

“I learned from the best, Vivian,” I replied.

I watched as Mr. Han gestured to the security guards.

The two men stepped forward, placing themselves on either side of the Mercer family.

“This way, please,” one of the guards said, his voice firm.

Vivian didn’t move for a long moment.
