“Perhaps your account is overdrawn,” I suggested.
Daniel’s face flushed a deep, angry red.
“Don’t be ridiculous. My family has more than enough money to buy and sell you ten times over.”
He stepped closer, trying to use his height to intimidate me.
“You followed me here, didn’t you? You sneaked in through the delivery gates to spy on us.”
“I have a right to be here, Daniel.”
“You have no rights here,” he snarled. “You are a schoolteacher’s daughter. You don’t belong in a place like this, and you certainly don’t belong in my family.”
He pointed a finger directly at my chest.
“I want you off this property immediately. If I see your face near the main pavilion, or near my mother and Claire, I will call security myself.”
I looked at his finger, then up at his angry eyes.
“And if I don’t leave?” I asked.
Daniel let out a harsh, dry laugh.
“Then we are finished. I will call my lawyer tonight and have the divorce papers drawn up.”
He leaned in, his breath warm against my cheek.
