“Is your full name Grace Holloway Alvarez?”
I swallowed the dryness in my throat.
“Yes,” I said.
Daniel let out a sharp, mocking laugh from his spot by the fireplace.
“She forgot to mention that on her cleaning application, didn’t she?” Daniel said.
He stepped closer to the desk, leaning his palms on the polished mahogany.
“And she certainly forgot to mention her previous employment.”
Ethan ignored him, his gaze locked onto mine.
“You were a pediatric nurse,” Ethan said.
“Yes,” I said.
“At St. Jude’s Memorial,” he added, his voice shaking slightly.
“Yes, Mr. Whitmore.”
“That is the hospital where Claire…” Ethan trailed off, unable to finish the sentence.
“Where your wife died giving birth to the quadruplets,” Daniel finished for him.
Daniel turned to me, his eyes gleaming with triumph.
“A highly prestigious hospital,” Daniel said. “And yet, you are here scrubbing floors.”
He reached over and tapped the screen of the phone in Ethan’s hand.
