Nobody met his eyes. Evelyn Vance was staring at him with cold disgust.
“I did,” Ethan said. “Under Article Four of the bylaws, regarding corporate malfeasance.”
Daniel’s gaze fell to the open folder on the table in front of Evelyn.
He saw the photocopy of the wire transfer from the dummy corporation in the Cayman Islands.
His face didn’t pale immediately, but his knuckles turned white where he held the chair.
“This is a joke,” Daniel said, though his voice had dropped an octave. “You’re bringing personal grief into the office, Ethan.”
“These are the records from the night Claire died,” Ethan said, his voice echoing in the silent room.
“Claire had a tragic complication,” Daniel said, stepping closer to the table. “We all mourned her, but this is madness.”
“The complication was a severed thoracic artery caused by Dr. Sterling’s negligence,” Ethan said.
“And the cover-up,” I added, speaking up for the first time, “was paid for by you.”
Daniel looked at me, his eyes narrowing into slits.
“And who are you?” Daniel sneered. “A disgraced night cleaner who was fired for malpractice at the very hospital you’re talking about?”
