“Yes,” Ethan said, his voice hardening. “They will.”

“But by then, Daniel will no longer have the power to direct them.”

He pulled a thick, black leather binder from under his arm.

It was Claire’s private medical journal, along with several printed sheets of laboratory data.

“I found the missing files,” Ethan said, showing me the pages.

“The clinical trial records show that the drug Claire was taking had a high rate of cardiac toxicity.”

“Daniel suppressed the reports.”

“He falsified the patient data to get FDA approval.”

I looked at the technical charts, the numbers and red notations in the margins.

“Did Claire know?” I asked.

“She suspected,” Ethan said.

“She was compiling this evidence to confront him.”

“That is why she was so isolated before she died.”

“Daniel threatened her. He threatened to ruin me if she spoke out.”

My stomach twisted.

“And now he is trying to do the same to you,” I said.

“He wants the children removed so I am forced to step down as CEO,” Ethan explained.

“He wants to step in as the savior of the company.”
