Daniel was persistent.
Ethan finally swiped the screen and put the phone to his ear.
“Daniel,” Ethan said.
His voice was cold, empty of any warmth.
I could hear Daniel’s voice coming through the receiver.
It was loud enough to cut through the quiet of the room.
“Ethan, thank God,” Daniel said.
“Where are you?”
“I’m in the study,” Ethan said.
“Is Grace still there?” Daniel asked.
“Yes,” Ethan said.
“You need to get her out of the house right now,” Daniel said.
“She is dangerous, Ethan.”
“She is trying to blackmail us.”
“She’s been digging into the hospital records.”
Ethan looked at me.
His eyes were dark, filled with a sudden, terrible realization.
“Why do you care about the hospital records, Daniel?” Ethan asked.
There was a pause on the other end of the line.
I could hear the sound of traffic in the background of Daniel’s call.
“We are twenty-four hours away from closing the Westside deal,” Daniel said.
