The blue and red lights flashed against the wet metal, turning the space into a chaotic blur of color.

Armed officers poured through the doors, their weapons drawn.

“Secure!” Sophia called out, holding up her badge. “We have the suspects.”

The troopers moved in, taking control of Margaret and Caleb.

An officer approached Dr. Vale, pulling him to his feet and leading him away.

I stood near the plane, holding Leo close to my chest, shielding him from the flashing lights.

He had stopped crying, his small fist pressing against my chin.

Sophia walked over to me, her face pale but relieved.

“He’s okay?” she asked.

“He’s okay,” I said.

“The state attorney is already moving on Wade,” she said. “They’re arresting him at his office.”

“Good,” I said.

“What are you going to do now?” she asked.

“I’m going to Richmond,” I said. “I’m going to bring Emily home.”

“We’ll need your statement first,” she said gently. “But then you can go.”

I nodded.

I walked out of the hangar, the cold rain falling on my shoulders.

It didn’t feel as cold anymore.
