The Silent Mirror and the Lies That Broke My Family
“You told me she died of natural causes,” Caleb said.
“And you believed me because it was convenient,” Margaret said.
I felt a cold wave of anger wash over me.
I looked at Sophia.
She nodded once.
I kicked the metal door open.
The sound echoed like a gunshot inside the empty hangar.
Margaret’s head snapped toward us.
Caleb took a step back, his eyes wide with fear.
“Daniel,” Caleb whispered.
“Put the baby down, Margaret,” I said.
I stepped into the hangar, my boots clicking against the wet concrete.
Sophia followed me, her gun pointed at Margaret.
“Drop your weapon and step away from the stairs,” Sophia commanded.
Margaret didn’t move.
She held Leo tighter against her chest.
“You’re too late, Daniel,” Margaret said.
“The plane isn’t going anywhere,” I said.
“Your pilot isn’t coming,” Sophia added. “We blocked the main road.”
Margaret looked at Caleb.
“Get in the plane, Caleb,” she ordered.
“No,” Caleb said, shaking his head. “It’s over.”
“Get in the plane!” she screamed.
Caleb didn’t move. He looked at me, his eyes filled with tears.
