“You’re just a coward.”
His eyes flickered to the side for a split second.
It was all the invitation I needed.
I lunged forward, throwing my weight into his chest.
The gun went off, the deafening roar echoing in the small kitchen.
The bullet shattered a glass cabinet behind me, sending shards raining down.
We hit the floor together.
I grabbed his right wrist, slamming it against the hard tile.
He grunted, his fingers releasing the weapon.
The gun slid across the floor, stopping near the refrigerator.
Vale scrambled after it, but I caught him by the collar of his coat.
I dragged him back, pinning him to the floor.
“Where is Leo?” I growled, my forearm pressed against his throat.
He gasped for air, his hands clawing at my sleeves.
“I… I don’t know,” he choked out.
“Margaret… she had Caleb take him.”
“Where?”
“To the boat,” he gasped.
“The *Silent Mirror*.”
“They’re taking him out of the state.”
The kitchen door burst open.
Sheriff Wade stood in the frame, his service weapon drawn and aimed at my head.
“Get off him, Daniel,” Wade barked.
