The Silent Inheritance That Exposed My Family Secret in the Desert
I closed my eyes for a fraction of a second, the image of my mother’s face flashing in my mind.
She had sat at my father’s funeral and held my hand, weeping about his honor.
Now, she was willing to commit perjury to help Dorian steal his land.
“Did my mother sign the secondary disclosures?” I asked, opening my eyes.
Vance nodded. “Yes. She signed the disclosure agreements and the tax waivers. She knew the deeds were backdated, Maren. She knew the whole thing was a setup to get the land out of your name before you returned from your tour.”
Voss looked up from his pad, his eyes meeting mine.
The implication was clear.
My mother wasn’t just a passive bystander.
By signing those disclosure agreements and agreeing to cover for Dorian’s forgery, she had crossed the line into active criminal conspiracy.
“She’s facing the same federal charges as Dorian,” Voss said quietly.
“I have the emails,” Vance said, leaning forward as far as the cuffs would allow. “Dorian sent me the scanned copies of her signatures from his personal account. I have them on my phone. I’ll give you the password. Just tell the DA I cooperated.”
