“Actually, Mr. Pike, you are the one standing on private property,” Mr. Voss said.
He unzipped his portfolio and pulled out a stack of heavy white papers.
They were bound with blue backing and stamped with a gold notary seal.
“These are the certified trust documents for the Calder estate,” Mr. Voss said.
He handed a copy to the sheriff, who pulled out a small flashlight to read them.
“The late Colonel Calder placed this entire mountain tract into a blind trust years ago,” Mr. Voss continued.
“The sole executor and beneficiary of this trust is Maren Calder.”

“My wife signed the transfer papers yesterday. We own this land.”
Mr. Voss shook his head slowly, his expression entirely neutral.

“The transfer she attempted to execute is void under Texas state trust laws.”
“Any further attempt to log, sell, or alter this property will be treated as felony fraud.”
