“Vincent,” Alexander said, his voice echoing in the small room. “Who do you swear your loyalty to?”

Vincent immediately took a step back from Luca, lowering his weapon toward the floor.

“To you, Mr. Romano,” Vincent said. “And to the family.”

“Then disarm my cousin,” Alexander said.

Luca spun around, his hand reaching for the holster under his wet coat.

But Vincent was faster.

He lunged forward, grabbing Luca’s wrist and twisting it behind his back with a loud, sickening crack.

Luca screamed, his flashlight falling to the floor and rolling under the desk, casting long, chaotic shadows up the walls.

The second guard jumped in, grabbing Luca’s other arm and forcing him down onto his knees.

The gun clattered across the hardwood floor, stopping near Marcus’s shoes.

Marcus bent down, picked up the weapon, and pointed it directly at Luca’s head.

“It is over, Luca,” Marcus said, his voice cold and devoid of any emotion.

The door to the study opened wider, and Sofia stood in the entryway, her face wet with rain and tears.
