The Silent Housemaid and the Poisoned Legacy of the Romano Family
“She is a servant who just tried to kill the head of this family,” Luca said, his face turning red. “I have every right to question her.”
“You are not the head of this family yet, Luca,” Marcus said.
He stood his ground, his dark suit immaculate, his hands clasped behind his back.
“According to the bylaws established by Alexander’s father, any internal accusation of treason must be verified before disciplinary action is taken,” Marcus said.
“This is my house,” Luca said, stepping closer to Marcus.
“It is Alexander’s house,” Marcus corrected him. “And until Dr. Voss determines the cause of his illness, Nina remains under the protection of the household code.”
Sofia looked between the two men, her fingers clutching the silver cross around her neck.
“Marcus is right, Luca,” Sofia said softly. “We cannot violate the rules. Not tonight.”
“She is going to get away with it if we wait,” Luca spat.
He threw the empty medicine bottle onto the bed.
It rolled across the heavy quilt and stopped near Alexander’s limp hand.
“She won’t get away,” Marcus said. “She will stay in this room, under guard, where everyone can see her.”
