“The backup generator is being targeted.”

“Stay in the dining room.”

“The glass is bulletproof, but the locks are electronic.”

“If they cut the emergency grid, the doors will default to open.”

Alexander pressed the button on his phone.

“Get the security team to the generator room now,” he commanded.

“Do not let anyone near the main switch.”

He pocketed the phone again and turned his full attention to me.

“Where are the records, Elena?” he demanded.

“If you have them, tell me now.”

I looked toward the heavy oak doors of the dining room.

Beyond them lay the dark corridors of the east wing.

“They are in the music room,” I said.

“Behind the walnut paneling, near the pedal of the grand piano.”

“There is a loose board.”

“Inside is Eleanor’s private diary, written during her final months.”

“Along with the lab results showing the heavy metals in her blood.”

“It proves the poisoning occurred systematically over several months.”

Celeste’s face went completely bloodless under the red lights.

She took a sudden step toward the dining room doors.

“This is a trap,” Celeste said quickly.
