“Do not trust her, Natalie,” Hayes whispered.

His voice was dead serious, stripped of his usual military formality.

“Do not trust anyone in that family,” he continued. “Not your father, not your mother, and certainly not your sister.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked, my eyes darting to Madison.

She was watching me, her fingers still hovering over the keyboard.

“The logistics leaks came from inside your household,” Hayes said. “Your father has been using his connections to bypass my depot, but he isn’t working alone.”

“Who is he working with?” I asked.

“I’m trying to secure the transport logs now,” Hayes said. “Just get out. Trust no one.”

The line went dead with a sharp click.

I lowered the phone and stared at the dark screen.

“What did he say?” Madison asked, her voice trembling.

“He told me to trust no one,” I said. “He said you might be involved.”

Madison stepped back, her boots scraping against the concrete floor.

“I’m not involved, Natalie, I swear to you,” she said, her eyes wide.

She reached out and grabbed my forearm, her fingers cold and desperate.
